Senior Citizens - The Yes Group
Welcome to the St. Matthew YES (Young Energetic Seniors) Group. We meet every Thursday in the auditorium immediately following the 9 a.m. Mass. We have a congenial group of about 80 people and our membership continues to grow. This group is for anyone 55 years and older.
We have several weekly activities in which you can participate. These include a group that walks around the beautiful grounds of St. Matthew's Church and also, aerobic exercises and line dancing.
Once a month we enjoy a luncheon either held here, prepared by several of our men or outside in a local restaurant. We only ask a small donation to cover expenses for luncheons prepared here.
There is no obligation to participate in any of these activities. If you prefer, you can just enjoy the company and the coffee. Refreshments are provided at our weekly meetings. The cost of refreshments is included in our annual dues of $20.00 per person. We do ask our members to take a turn helping in the kitchen.
If you have any questions regarding the YES group, just ask Sr. Anthony Thérèse, Pat Benoit, Roberta Fredericks, Joan Rosato, Joan Burke or Joe Corcoran. We will be glad to help you.
News
On May 2nd , the YES Group observed their 8th Annual Communion Breakfast. We were both happy and honored to have as speaker, our former pastor, Msgr. MacDonald. It is always very special to us when he visits, as he is the reason that we have a "YES" Group.
Save the Date: As seniors, we seem to be prime targets for dishonest people who want our money. I personally know of two instances where perfectly intelligent people were scammed out of thousands of their hard earned dollars. On JUNE 13th a rep from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program will be a speaker at our meeting. "Avoiding Senior Scams" will be the subject. Please do not miss this meeting and bring a friend . The money you save may be your own. All are welcome. You don't have to be a senior.
A trip to the Aquaduct Casino is being planned for sometime in June or July.
