This is a wonderful group of 60 or more families who live the Gospel message to love and help others. The group is unique as all of their helping events are geared to include the children’s participation, working alongside their parents. In turn, the parents give good example and serve as wonderful, positive role models for their children. In addition, their children learn, at an early age, the importance of reaching out and caring for those in need.
Each year, 3-4 helping projects are planned. For example, every first Friday evening in December at about 5 PM, the children come to the Parish Center to make cards for the children in the Pediatric Unit of Good Samaritan Hospital. Their parents bring new, unwrapped gifts for the sick children in the Hospital. These gifts are distributed at a later date. Then, at 6:30 PM, all of the parents and children travel to Our Lady of Consolation Nursing Home in West Islip to greet and entertain the residents by singing Christmas Carols. Tom Dana, one of our talented Parishioners, accompanies us on the piano. The residents in the Nursing Home are always delighted to see us, especially our wonderful children who are so friendly and kind to them.
Another project that we have done every year is to do a Fall cleanup at the home of one or more Parishioners. This year, about 80 or more adults and children cleaned up the leaves at the homes of 3 Parishioners, one of whom was a young father who had recently undergo surgery for a brain tumor. This group not only seems to enjoy one another but they also enjoy helping others and be instruments of Christ’s love,
